This is my 3rd medal for this race :)
Tar Heel 10 Miler and Fleet Feet 4 Miler were a success! Great race! There were over 4,200 runners, making it the biggest race Chapel Hill, NC has ever had.
The race had awesome sponsors like Fleet Feet and CEP.  The course was difficult as always because Chapel Hill is pretty hilly and of course there is a monster of a hill called Laurel Hill that’s a soul crusher.  They actually have a 2nd timing just for running up Laurel Hill - The Laurel Hill Challenge.
After the race I hung around and mingled a bit then headed home for the Farmer’s market and had a nice lunch.  Now I’m going to rest up until my parkour lesson at 3pm with Fifth Ape. Busy day! And I’m supposed to go clubbing tonight lol.

Tar Heel 10 Miler and Fleet Feet 4 Miler tomorrow morning! I’ve done the 10 Miler for the past 2 years but I am doing the 4 miler this year because I haven’t been doing as much running this year.
Should be a ton of fun! I’ve also got some awesome news that I’ll share after the race but it has to do with me and my local Fleet Feet running store.. :D
I love that the bib has my name on it!

Shin Splints

Sooooo I’ve got shin splints…. Most likely from upping my weekly mileage from ~10miles to ~35 miles too fast (like within a week) in attempt to get in shape for the Tar Heel 10 Miler.

Man it’s hard to juggle 3 sports.  I shouldn’t have signed up for a long distance race right in the middle of triathlon season or I should have held off on doing triathlons until summer so that I could give myself time to train for each discipline properly.

At least I made my goal time for the Tar Heel 10! Woo hoo. And I’ve got no races for a while so I can just recover and cycle until my shins are better.

So learn from my mistakes and don’t do up your mileage too quickly!!

So anyone have any secret tips to heal shin splints faster?

Finally! My computer had a virus so I was computer-less all of yesterday and now I know I am addicted to the internet haha.
Anyway, the Tar Heel 10 Miler was awesome!! I got my results back and I accomplished my goal of finishing in under 1 hour and 15 minutes. My chip time was 1 hour 14 minutes and 35 seconds!  That’s about 7:28 minutes per mile.
My battle plan was just to stick to the 7:30min/mile pace guy until the big downhill where I would pick up the pace and attempt to gain some time before Laurel Hill, which would slow me down a lot. Then a sprint to the finish!
The hardest part was, without a doubt, Laurel Hill, which climbs over 200 vertical feet in just under a mile.  This year they had the Laurel Hill Challenge, which was a race within a race (Inception?!) to see who could have the fastest time up the hill.
Here is the elevation profile of the hill:
The medal is a really nice finishing present! Last year we got water bottles too but not this year :(
The weather was great for running: cool and a little overcast.  It was so weird seeing so many people (>3000) up running around so early on a college campus!
I saw several of my Cross Country buddies and even an old alum of UNC and friend of my older sister (also a UNC alum).
My younger sister took pics at the race, which I shall post when she gives them to me (are you reading this Katie? chop chop! ;)
