Reflection Time

This morning when I was in the shower, I had a reflective moment and just started thinking about why I like running, cycling, and doing triathlons.

1.) After doing a team sport (soccer) for my whole life, I wanted to do something that would allow me to rely on myself and only myself.  This makes wins and any progress seem better because I did it myself.  I love feeling self-reliant and independent.  That’s not to say I don’t enjoy running, swimming, or cycling with a group every now and then. And it sure helps keep motivation high when I get praise from online buddies on tumblr or on dailymile, but because it’s not really a team sport, I can train whenever I want, as hard as I want, wherever I want - to a degree.

2.) I love being outside.  I love running and cycling outside! I am definitely and outdoorsy person.  I just love the smell of the air when your in the countryside or in the trails, the feel of the wind on my face, and since switching to more minimalist shoes I feel like there is an extra sensory experience added from feeling the ground with your feet.  I love when it’s Spring and I can see all of the flowers and green plants growing and thriving.  I love when it’s summer and everything is hot and you can jump into a lake or a pool to cool off.  I love fall when the leaves are changing and the air is a little crisper.  I sort of love winter (lol its not my fav) when I can run in the snow and feel like a badass running in the cold.

3.) I love pushing my body to its limits.  When I am breathing hard during a hard run or bike session I feel like I am so very powerful.  I’m sure endorphins play a huge role in this part-the feeling after a workout when I’m exhausted but I feel like a superstar is the best.

4.) I love feeling strong.  I hate when people assume that women and girls are weak. I love proving those people wrong.  I like that my legs and arms and abs are muscular, I worked hard for my muscles and they work hard for me.
