Semester Winding Down

My sister moved out of dorm today and went home because she is done with exams.  I’m so jealous! But our mom came down to help her move out so we got lunch at one of my favorite Indian food places and it was delicious as always! The restaurant is called Vimala’s Curryblossom Cafe and the owner, Vimala, uses lots of local foods, has vegan and gluten-free options, and makes sure that poverty doesn’t keep people from eating there.

I did lots of calculus problems to prepare for my exam on Friday and took a break around 5pm to go to the gym for some strength training and a spin class.  The gym has been pleasantly empty from the combination of exam week and people leaving for home so that’s been super nice.

Tomorrow is my LUNA Chix group ride so that’s really exciting! I hope we get even more people than last time!

I hope everyone is enjoying their Wednesday!! <3

Exam #2 Down and Ninja Night Run

Today I spent all day studying for my Geology exam which was at 4pm.  I think I did pretty well on it! woo! 2 down, 2 to go!

After my exam, I watched the 2 episode of Glee I missed (The Lady Gaga one was awesome!!)

Then I went for a run but it was already dark.  I like running in the dark.  I feel pretty safe in my town but I’m still alert when I run.  I did a nice 5 miles with about a 7:40 minute/mile pace.  Not too shabby.

Now I’m going to kick back a protein shake and chill.  I’ve got to study all day tomorrow for an 8am Spanish exam. *deep breath* I can get through all these exams. No biggie… (I think I’d rather run a half ironman)

For all you other college kids, here’s a complimentary stress reduction kit!

Happy Fitpocalypse tomorrow fitblrs!

1st Exam Completed! Running Again! And Better Pullups!

Today I had my first exam and I think it went really well!

Tonight I went for a run and it was my first run in awhile since my shinsplints.  The shins felt pretty good today, no pain and running felt awesome.  It was weird running again after taking several weeks off. I can’t really explain it, it felt so nice and liberating!   I ran up this beast hill on Raleigh Rd and my quads were burning and I was nearly gasping when I got to the top.  It was a glorious way to finish a run!

Then I went to the Student Rec Center to get my strength on!!  I hadn’t been to the SRC to lift weights in several weeks because I’ve been doing crossfit instead. But now that crossfit is over, I decided to go.  First thing I did was pullups.  I used to do assisted pullups with a weight that allowed me to do 3 reps.  Today I was able to take off 8 pounds from the assist, meaning I was lifting 8 more pounds of my body weight!  It was awesome! I felt so strong and I am that much closer to doing a full body-weight pullup.  :D

I then made up my own quick 10 minute high intensity workout by pulling exercises from previous crossfit workouts.  My WOD was 3 rounds of:

  • 10 burpee clean and press
  • 20 lunges (10 on each leg)
  • 20 weighted v-ups

I used 2 15 pound weights for all of these except the v-ups, for which I used 1.  I’ll have to use 20lbs next time.

Good day! Now to study for my Geology Exam tomorrow!!

Wish me luck! :D

Exams are Stupiddddd

So I haven’t had as much time for tumblr or running/biking as I would like today and I won’t for a couple more days but I’m going to get out and run tomorrow for sure.

A note on exams:

They are stupid.  I like to call them Temporary Memorization Contests because you cram cram cram and try to just do better than your classmates because professors will curve the grades.  Plus, you forget everything you studied a couple days later! Who seriously remembers what they learned in class last semester?

It’s just a bunch of hoops you have to jump through to graduate.

I think that internships/jobs are the best way to learn something and decide if you want to make it a career.

Ok enough ranting! Now I’ll do some pushups in between working on studying for my exam tomorrow

Good luck to all the other fitblrs in school and dealing with finals right now!
