did you determine your rmr? im curious how the measured value compares to say if you did the calculation.
Good question!
The bodpod gave me an RMR of only 1360 kcal. That is lower than the value than I’ve gotten from any online calculator
For example:
This site gives me and RMR of 1,488
This one gives me 1541
This one gives me 1531
I guess the lesson to be learned here is that online calculators will give you a ballpark figure but if you want something more accurate, get tested by a professional in a lab.
Good news! New bench press PR today. 105lbs for 3 reps
Today in my exercise physiology lab we got to do Hydrostatic weighing (underwater weighing) and the Bod pod. Both methods are really cool.
The bod pod smelled like chemicals and is pretty small so if you’re not good with small spaces you wouldn’t like it. It also made my ears pop. We had to wear an unflattering red cap to keep our ears covered and it was so funny when everyone took their turn because we all look like little space cadets in our own little space pod. The bod pod also gives you your RMR, which is pretty cool.
For the underwater weighing method you first determine your vital capacity (how much air you can maximally exhale). Next you climb into a tank with a floating chair that’s attached to a scale and you maximally exhale underwater. The scale measures how much you weigh underwater. You dunk yourself and maximally exhale until you get at least 3 readings with the same value and then you enter that information into a special formula to determine body fat %. The water was nice and warm so it wasn’t too bad.
My body fat is a lot higher than I would like so I’m going to be working on getting a little leaner over the next couple of months.
